Copywriting

Website copy, articles, thought leadership and press releases, written by former journalists. We interview you and write it so people read to the end and take action.

Why hire a copywriter?

Why hire a copywriter?

You know what you want to say. You’ve said it a hundred times, on the phone, at the counter, across a table. Then you sit down to write it and it comes out stiff, or long, or three weeks late, because writing about yourself is the hardest writing there is.

That’s where most business copy goes wrong. It’s written from the inside, so it talks about you, when the reader only wants to know what’s in it for them. It’s polite when it should be clear. And it takes so long that half the site never gets written at all.

A copywriter fixes that. We interview you the way a journalist would, pull out the things you say that make people lean in, and write it in a voice that sounds like you on a good day. Then you get on with the business while the words get on with the job.

What's included

  • An interview, not a briefing form

We start with a conversation over Teams or phone, recorded so nothing is lost. Most of the copy comes out of that interview. The rest comes from a short follow-up list, for the things nobody can remember on the spot.

  • Website copy

Home, about, services and landing pages, written for the person reading them and structured so they know what to do next. Written to be found on Google as well as read, without it sounding that way.

  • Articles and blog posts

Answer the questions your customers actually ask, so they find you before they find your competitor. Researched, written and ready to publish.

  • Thought leadership and LinkedIn

Opinion pieces and posts in your voice, drawn from your interview, for when you know a lot but never get around to writing it down.

  • Bios, profiles and case studies

The pieces you reuse everywhere: your website, your capability statement, your award entry. Written once, properly.

  • Press releases and media pitches

Written by people who've sat on the other side of the desk deciding what to run. Newsworthy angle first, quotes that sound like a human, and a subject line an editor will open.

  • Editing and a final read

One round of edits included, then a last pass for consistency, spelling and anything that's drifted off-voice.

Why hire us as your copywriter?

  • We're former journalists. From editing a daily trade news publication to coordinating international news at the ABC, we know how to get a story out of someone and how to write it tight.

  • No briefing forms. An interview and a short follow-up list. You talk, we write.

  • It sounds like you. We write in your voice, not ours, because your customers already know what you sound like.

  • Written to be read. Short sentences, plain words and a clear next step. Google likes it for the same reasons people do.

  • We've written for tourism, real estate, hospitality, health and fitness, design and media businesses, from sole traders to national brands.

  • Everything's done remotely, anywhere in Australia. Interviews over Teams or phone, drafts and edits by email.

How long does it take?

A page or an article is usually back with you within a week of the interview. A full website depends on how many pages; we’ll give you a date when we quote, and we keep to it.

Do you do SEO?

Yes, as part of the writing rather than as a separate job. We research the words your customers search for and build them into the copy where they belong. What we don’t do is stuff pages with keywords until they read like a robot wrote them. Google stopped rewarding that years ago, and readers never did.

Can you write in our tone of voice?

That’s the point of the interview. We listen to how you talk about your business and write it the way you’d say it, minus the ums. If you have brand guidelines, send them through; if you don’t, we’ll match the voice you already use with customers.

What do you need from us?

For most projects, an hour for the interview, and whatever you already have: the old website, a brochure, a list of services, the questions customers ask most. We’ll tell you if anything’s missing.

Can you write press releases for us?

Yes, and we’ll tell you if the story isn’t there yet. We’ve been the journalists deciding what runs, so we write the release an editor will actually read: the angle up front, real quotes, and the facts a reporter needs to file without ringing you.

Do you work outside Sydney?

Yes. Our entire process is done remotely, so it makes no difference where you are in Australia.
